Accutane is a very strong acne medication that has possibly many side effects. This page of network intends in order to part my own experiences with this drug to help potential users estimate advantages and risks. It is certain, everybody replies differently to this drug, so do not await your results to be the same. Be warned, if you sense squeamish looking at of close-uðs dire acne, I advise you to cease the consideration of this page.

I personally consider that this what indoor which considers. It is however, this would be naive to ignore the fact that we depend much on our personal appearance when we go about our daily lives. I post this page of network not for some weird desire to expose my person to world, but rather to add to ðàñòóùåìó quantity anecdotal information available about Accutane. As you can see, I had great success with this drug, and saw great improvements.

I had strong acne all throughout secondary school and tried of many topical creams and antibiotics, with neither success. Then I took full treatment Accutane and my acne èñ÷åçíóòûé, for about two months. Then this began returned again, and in a few more months, acne had subsequent-set ownly on my person. Thus I began other round processing.

I was absolutely successful with this drug having experienced only moderate spillover, all of which somewhat can be eased with other treatments.

This is my second time taking Accutane.  I sure hope that it will improve from here. This photo was taken with a really cheap camera, so in reality my face wasn't that yellow.

My skin is much clearer, except I have got this little area of redness that seems a bit irritated. The improvement is also partly due to the fact that I took the picture with a much better camera. I'm currently taking 80mg of Accutane a day, split up into two pills, one taken at breakfast and the other with dinner. Skin is very dry and lips are peeling and dry. I've been told that the higher the dosage is during the treatment period, the longer the effects will last once the treatment ends. I don't remember what my dosage was for my first round of treatment, but I think it was lower than the current dosage.

Well, I must say that I am very pleased. My skin has greatly improved, and I am almost completely satisfied with it. I'm going to continue treatment for another 5 weeks just to make sure.  I was surprised that the majority of the improvement occurred over a week, just after I started taking two 40mg pills together with supper, instead of taking one pill at breakfast and one pill at supper. I was told that Accutane is absorbed much better when taken with fatty foods, such as milk, and some kind of meal with some fat content. The problem I was having before was that I only had a glass of orange juice for breakfast, and this wasn't enough fat to allow me to absorb the pill properly.

This is what my face looks like after having been off Accutane for about four months. I am still using the amazing moisturizer Glaxal Base every day, and this seems to help prevent pimples from forming because the skin is not irritated. It also has a soothing effect on the skin and improves the healthiness and appearance of the skin. I can not say enough good stuff about Glaxal Base!

Feb. 29, 2006

Someone emailed me and asked how I am doing, so I thought I'd give a little update. As you can see, I have a few small colorations on my skin due to very minor acne, but in general my skin is quite clear. I've been off my second round of Accutane for about six months and generally feel pretty good about my skin. Now all I have to do is try to get into the gym more!

May 21, 2006

Time for a little update.... it's been about 9 months since I stopped my second round of treatment with Accutane, and my skin is doing fine - still not perfectly clear, but is OK for my standards. I am still getting the occasional acne appearing, but it seems to be limited to about 1 major pimple and just a few areas with minor acne. From my experience I would say that a second round of treatment is worth it, just because now it seems that although the acne has come back slightly, it seems less intense than it was before.

What is Accutane?

What is Accutane?
Accutane is the brand name for the drug "isotretinion”. There is no generic version of Accutane available.

All isotretinoin sold in the United States is sold as Accutane. The medication belongs to a class of drugs known as retinoid medications. Retinoid medications are related chemically to Vitamin A

Accutane works by inhibiting or reducing sebaceous gland function. Exactly how it does this is not understood. The reduction of sebum secretion is temporary and depends on the dose and duration of treatment. Accutane treatment usually lasts for 15 to 20 weeks. In many cases, Accutane results in a complete or prolonged acne remission.

Accutane is sold in soft capsules in doses of 10mg, 20mg, 30 or 40mg. It is the only treatment known to stop severe nodular acne.

Accutane before and after pictures

Kelli, a rosacea sufferer who keeps a diary on her rosacea treatments has posted a series of impressive photos before and after photos during her treatment with low-dose accutane, which she has kindly allowed me to reproduce here.

The pictures speak for themselves. Kelli has been taking 10mg a day. Worth noting that the most beneficial effects of accutane on rosacea are low-dose regimes. High doses, such as those taken for acne, can make rosacea worse. The "rosacea news" site has an excellent summary of articles on low dose accutane for rosacea.

Thanks to Kelli for sharing her results.

Doctor's Responses Archive

Viewer's Question:

I'm a young woman with real bad acne. I've heard Accutane is very good for acne but is dangerous. When is Accutane used and what problems can occur from it?

Doctor's Response:

People with severe acne that does not respond to other medications are candidates for taking Accutane. Accutane is the brand name for isotretinoin, a class of drugs called retinoids.

Isotretinoin (Accutane) is taken by mouth, usually once or twice a day for 16 to 20 weeks. It appears to reduce the size of the oil glands so that much less oil is produced.  It also reduces cell shedding and the stickiness of cells in the follicles. Isotretinoin (Accutane) is generally very effective in helping prevent extensive scarring in patients with severe acne. After 16 to 20 weeks of treatment, their acne is completely (or nearly completely) one in most (up to 90%) of cases. For some people, however, the acne will come back, and they will need additional treatment with isotretinoin.

All patients of acne must careful consider a few of blemishes isotretinoin. Drug not only expensive but this also has some important adverse effects. Possible spillover include the inflammation of lip and mucous the membranes of eye; Dry mouth, nose, or leather; Itching; Nosebleeds; Muscle aches; Photosensitivity; And, rare decreased night vision. Other more serious spillover include enlarged blood cholesterol, lipid, and triglyceride levels and abnormal liver enzymes. In order to be sure isotretinoin ceases if these spillover arise, doctor generally monitors patient the complete blood of abacus, the chemistry of blood, cholesterol, triglycerides, and liver enzymes before therapy begins and periodically during processing. All of these spillover generally will go away the medication ambassador ceases. If you experience spillover that time as using isotretinoin, you must tell your doctor. Doctor maybe in a position to reduce the dose of drug so that spillover decrease or cease.

The most alarming adverse effect of isotretinoin (Accutane) is that it is teratogenic: it can cause birth defects in the developing fetus if a woman takes it during pregnancy. Therefore, it is crucial that women of childbearing age are NOT pregnant and do NOT get pregnant while taking isotretinoin.

If you (or any woman in the childbearing years) is to take isotretinoin (Accutane), you must use an appropriate birth control method for 1 month before therapy begins, during the entire course of therapy, and for 1 full month after therapy stops. You should talk to your doctor about when it is safe to get pregnant after the treatment with isotretinoin (Accutane) has been stopped.

In sum, isotretinoin (Accutane) is highly effective in clearing up severe acne but it is does have some side effects and it is dangerous for women during pregnancy because it can cause birth defects in their children. As with all medications, you should only take isotretinoin (Accutane) with caution.
